FOBbit

This cartoon appeared in a recent edition of "The Army Times". I hope I'm not breaking copy write laws but posting it but I had to because it is so funny. Many people don't ever get to leave the FOB. These people have been given the nickname of Fobbits. Like anywhere else in life we in the army like to bust people chops. Obviously the word FOBbit is a cross between 'hobbit' and 'FOB'. In all actuality not leaving the FOB is a good thing. Many of the people who do get to leave wish they didn't. Either way I thought some of you would appreciate this.

Love you all,
Miss you all

Scott

Sir:
In any operation there must be someone that stays behind to create strategy, process and distribute information, and handle the non combat logistics. It's those "fobbits" who get everything together so the men and women in combat can execute. What would be accomplished if they were out in the field? How's does putting your strategists in harms way make your job any easier?

From another non-FOBbit that had boots on the ground for both wars: Maybe having those supposed strategists come out with us every now and then would improve their clarity of what is truly going on beyond the wire. One cannot ONLY use past experience and/or what was taught at some school to plan or execute to accomplish the mission. Commanders at every level should have their soldiers rotate into sector to appreciate the situation, THIS INCLUDES THEMSELVES.
